Vocabulary

1. Cardinal directions - north, south, east, west

2.Intermediate directions- northeast, southeast, northwest, southwest

3. Compass Rose - used to show direction on a map.

4. Equator- an imaginary line which divides the earth into northern and southern hemispheres.

5. Prime Meridian - an imaginary line which divides the earth into the eastern and western hemispheres.

6. Map scale - the part of a map that compares distance on a map to distance in the real world.

7. Latitude - parallels that run east and west

8. Longitude -  meridians that run north and south

9. Tropic of Cancer -  Line of latitude at 23 1/2  degrees North

10. Tropic of Capricorn - Line of Latitude at 23 1/2 degrees South
